Chapter Thirteen- Poynter’s Jealousy

“What are the first eight alkanes?”

“Methane, Ethane, Propane, Butane, Pentane, Hexane, Heptane and Octane.”

“Give me the reactivity series.”

“I’m close to giving you a slap,” he muttered, before closing his eyes in concentration. “Potassium, Sodium, Lithium… Calcium… Magnesium, Aluminium… Zinc, Iron, Tin… Lead? Hydrogen… Damn.”

“Think about it, Doug,” I coaxed.

“I am thinking!” he hissed through gritted teeth.

“What were pennies made of before they decided it was too expensive?”

“Copper?” At my nod, he continued, “Mercury… Silver, Gold… And…? Platinum!”

“See? You can do it…” I stood up from my chair, “Let’s take a break. You want a-”

“I can’t believe you kissed him.”

I turned back at the quiet tone of Dougie’s voice, “That’s none of your business.”

He nodded slowly, “No… Of course not.”

“I’m allowed to kiss other people. We’re not dating anymore.”

“And who’s decision was that?” he demanded harshly.

I stared at him in shock as the meaning behind his words registered, “No… You’re going out with Harry.”

“I know! And how bad do you think I feel that I still have a thing for you?! I didn’t choose this!”

I moved to where he sat on the bed, and lowered myself down next to him silently, putting out an arm to embrace him awkwardly. I didn’t know what else to do. He leaned into my chest, hiding his face from view. I played with his hair absent-mindedly.

“I have to get over this,” he mumbled. I nodded thoughtfully.

“Anything I can do to help? Be ugly?”

He giggled, “Impossible. Kiss me and make it so I feel nothing?”

“Hang on.” I tipped his head back in a jokey fashion and brushed my lips over his lightly, making him giggle again. I stared down at him for a moment, then we were kissing properly.

His mouth feasted hungrily as he brought his hand round to hold me into the kiss. The blow was like a fist into my stomach, and I moved my hands up his arms slowly, and round onto his chest, easing off his short sleeved, white shirt.

“Dougie…” I murmured as he pulled back. His smile was slow and seductive as he pulled my t-shirt up over my head before sliding his mouth onto my neck silkily. My breath caught in my throat as his tongue assaulted the skin there, and my nails dug into the long sleeved black t-shirt he was still wearing.

Pulling back, he took the liberty of pulling his t-shirt off himself before catching my mouth with his again. I shifted my weight instinctively, trapping him underneath me as I took the kiss deeper. Our tongues clashed as he fisted his hands in my hair. Then I was on my back, and he was hovering above me.

There was a wicked grin on his face and his eyes were glinting with lust, making him look cursed, and even more gorgeous. He moved down into me so his mouth was next to my ear, his warm lips in contrast with the cool lip-ring brushing the skin with every syllable he spoke: “Finally…”

Tearing my t-shirt off, he nipped on my earlobe with his teeth, toying with it before working his way down my neck excruciatingly slowly and creeping onto my chest. I arched my back sensuously as his mouth fixed over my nipple greedily, the first moan sliding from my lips.

The phone rang through the house.
