Chapter Forty-One- My
Boyfriend’s Return
A few days later, I felt worse with the
situation. I lay on my bed with closed eyes, wondering how best to proceed with this already precarious situation.
Well, step one had to be to make sure that
nothing like that ever happened again. I knew that that wasn’t the first time such a thought had crossed my mind, but
now I felt even more determined to stick to it. I mean, this was even more dangerous now. I had slept with him… I had
taken the final unforgivable step.
Step two was to focus more on Danny. He
was my boyfriend, after all, and he deserved to have my full attention. It was unfair that I kept being distracted by Dougie.
He wasn’t my boyfriend anymore. Danny was.
Ought I to tell Danny what happened…?
It would be the honest approach and then
if he decided to give me another chance, I could feel secure in the fact that I had admitted by mistake and we could move
past it. But… He didn’t like Dougie as it was. What would he do if I told him…?
Would Dougie own up to Harry?
Probably not. Neither of us wanted to hurt
him.
It was over now, anyway.
Like the wise Rafiki once opined: The past
does matter. It’s in the past.
It was at that moment that I decided that
only the criminally insane take their logic from the words of a mandrill in a Disney film…
I felt something warm brush against my
jaw and I shifted slightly on the bed, mumbling something incoherent. Then something wet trailed down the side of my face
and my eyes shot opened. “Did you just lick me?”
Danny grinned down at me, “Did you
like it?”
“It was…weird.”
“Then no…” he said in
an unconvincing tone. He straddled me on the bed with a grin. “We’ll try a different greeting, then.”
I smiled up at him, “I thought I
wasn’t seeing you until tomorrow.”
“Turns out, I have some time to spare
tonight…” He leant down and caught my lips in a slow, soft kiss. I arched my back so as to be closer to him. “Missed
you.”
“I missed you, too,” I told
him honestly, ignoring the tug of guilt in my stomach. “But you had a good time, though, yeah?”
He grinned, “Yeah. It was magic.
Dave and I just spent the whole time pratting around like we used to. And it was great to see everyone else again.”
“I’m glad.”
His lips met mine again softly, “What
did you do?”
“What? For New Years?”
“Yeah. Have a good time with your
mum?”
I rolled my eyes, “She cancelled
on me.”
“No way!”
His shock made me laugh, “Seriously.
She went out with her friends and I moped around the house until Matt dragged me out.”
A single eyebrow rose, “You spent
New Year with your stalker?”
“And his boyfriend,” I defended.
“But, yeah. Matt claimed that it was pathetic to stay in on Hogmanay so he dragged me out.” I had to be as honest
as I could be, I decided. “And then I saw Dougie.”
His face went blank and my stomach clenched
in response. “Dougie?”
“Yeah.” I swallowed, nervous
now. I’d somehow managed to change his whole mood with that one word. “Harry was away as well, so we decided to
meet up.”
“How nice.”
I sighed, “Danny… You spent
New Year with your ex.” He sat back, muttering something to himself and I
propped myself up on my elbows to keep the proximity. “What was that?”
He shook his head and smiled at me, though
his eyes didn’t match his mouth. “It’s nothing. Just thinking.”
Then his mouth was suddenly on mine again,
but this time it was firmer, more powerful. He pushed me back onto the bed and his hand slid up under my t-shirt and onto
my chest. I wondered whether to stop him. An abrupt mood change like this… Maybe he was…
I broke away, “Danny…”
He stared back at me, his eyes dark with
lust, but I swore I could see something more in the depths as well. “Don’t you want this, Tom?”
“Of course I do, but-”
He shushed me, giving me a series of small
kisses as he did so, “Stop thinking. Just do.”
So I did.
