Awards and Merits

God, I loved coming here. It let me escape my ‘perfect’ and ‘well behaved’ persona and just go wild. The loud metal music; the head-banging; the sound of everyone singing along to the songs that they love. I felt a tugging on my sleeve, and as I turned round, I saw Ehren McGhee jerking his head towards the bar, telling me to follow him. “Having fun, are we?” he asked once we could hear one another again.

“This is so good! I just feel so…unrestricted.” Ehren grinned at me, before flashing a smile at a girl who was eying him up. With his lean frame, hazel eyes and brown hair with a gelled up fringe, he got that a lot.

“I’m glad. You don’t get out enough. It’s unhealthy for a sixteen-year-old.” He ordered a can of juice from the guy behind the bar. “You want?” he offered. I shook my head, and we headed down to the main dance floor again.

“You look flushed,” Stacey Mackenzie said into my ear. Her black-lined dark blue eyes were shining with energy, and her long light brown hair was tousled due to her head-banging and so was hanging fluffily around her slim face.

“So do you,” I replied.

She grinned, and rubbed her cheeks, “You ever head-banged to Korn? For the whole song?”

“No. I’ll be sure to give it a try though.” My gaze floated over to a guy behind her. Wow! He was fit! He noticed me, and flashed me a stunning smile.

Stacey noticed that I was staring and looked behind her. “Good God, Bourne! Go for it!”

I fixed my attention back onto her. “No way!” I shouted in her ear. “He’s too fit.” ‘Beating Hearts Baby’ by Head Automatica came on. I groaned and told Stacey I was going to stand at the side. She nodded.

“Sure.” I went over to stand next to the wall, and looked to the spot where the guy had been. He was gone. I sighed. Damn it! There was a tap on my shoulder, and I turned round questionably. Suddenly there was a mouth on mine- hot, and longing. It never occurred to me to shove back, I just went with it. I mean, look at it this way, a person kisses you like this in a dark club; you’re hardly going to break away, are you? I felt my back hit the damp wall behind me, and whoever it was ran their tongue slowly along my bottom lip. I opened my mouth, and it slipped inside. It was a guy, I could tell as soon as he pressed his body up against mine. My hand was on his neck, whilst his found the small of my back, each holding the other into the kiss.

About five minutes or so later, he pulled back. And only then did I open my eyes to see who it was. The fit guy! Oh, my God! He was so hot! His hair was dark and spiked, and his eyes were a dark hazel. There was a cutely crooked grin on his face. “Right.”

“Right,” I repeated back to him, not able to say much more.

He laughed lightly, and took my hand. Fishing a pen out his pocket, he quickly wrote something before leaning in and giving me one more short kiss. “See you around,” he said simply, before walking back to his friends. I stared after him, then glanced down at my hand. It had a name, and a number. A smile curled on my face as I said the name to myself.

“Matt.”
